Two Dangers

In the wake of the recent fall of an evangelical Christian leader in the US, there has been much discussion on the internet. On the The Warfield List Pastor Richard Bacon generalised the discussion there to comment on two dangers that a pastor must be aware of in ministry: pride and laziness. (I should emphasis that Dr Bacon was not commenting on recent events specifically.) The whole post is well worth every pastor reading. Here is a quote:

If a pastor is too lazy to pray, to study, and to seek the face of God, then he has given up growth and is on the brink of a fall. "He who is slack in his work is brother to him that is a great waster." The lazy man loses what he has -- he allows the gifts and talents that God has given him to slip through his fingers, so to speak. A man who is too "tired" to get out of bed and begin praying early for his flock does not deserve the name of watcher on the wall, or "sheepdog."
